What are Meta Title Elements?
Meta Title Elements or Meta Title Tags are the most important part of a webpage from the search engines stand point and also a little from visitors perspective as well. Search engines algorithm lay a great deal of emphasis on Title tags to evaluate the relevancy of the webpages against a search query.
Almost all search engines carry weightage for the Metal title elements in their ranking algorithm to weigh the relevancy factor of the web pages. From the visitors' aspect, a clearly defined title tag helps them understand what the webpage is all about.
Apart from that, a self-explanatory and attractive title tag can be critical in driving traffic from SERP to your websites as well.
Where is it located and How Does It Look Like?
Title tag can be found in the view source of any webpage in HTML coding which looks like the following example:
< TITLE >Miami Florists - beautiful floral creations made to order.< /TITLE >
Preparation of Optimized Meta Title Tags
The preparation of Meta Title Tags is very simple and requires a systematic approach. Let's discuss the procedure in step-by-step manner. For this purpose, let's take the above title as an example:
Selection of Keywords
Ideally, you should have selected and assigned the targeted keywords and keyword phrases for each and every webpage of your site. It enables you to focus entirely on the preparation and optimization of Meta elements.
Putting the keywords in order/sequence
Supposing we have assigned the keywords such as florists Miami, florist Florida, and Wedding bouquets for our homepage, a logical order of those keywords should like the following:
Florists in Miami Florida specializing in wedding bouquets
It is always advisable that few words should be used while writing title tag as each additional keyword may dilute the relevancy factor of the title.
In the above example, as you can see, we have the three keywords in most logical order possible. As far as the keywords are concerned, we have put "in" between Florists and Miami, which is perfectly alright as most search engines treat "in" as stop word. Hence, the value of the keyword "Florists Miami" does not get diluted here.
Besides, there is no reason to repeat the world Florists once again just to include the keyword Florist Florida - it's already been used once and is close enough to the word Florists as well.
Moreover, we haven't used any comma between Miami and Florida as search engines consider comma as a keyword separator. No the last keyword "bouquets" is in the extremely end of the title, which might dilute the relevancy of the title.
We should try to keep it as close to the first two keywords as possible.
Florists in Miami Florida - wedding bouquets a specialty.
In this example, we have put a hyphen between the first two keywords and the third keywords as it does not make any difference to the search engines. We haven't used a period for the same reason we that don't use a comma for. Now, if you look at the following title tag, it covers the entire combination of following keywords such as:
- florists Miami
- florists Florida
- florists in Miami
- florists in Florida
- florists in Miami Florida
- wedding bouquets
- Miami wedding bouquets
- Florida wedding bouquets
While optimizing title tags it is very important to ensure the right sequence of keywords as improper sequence of the keywords will potentially dilute the relevancy factor of the Meta title.
Finally, we get the title tag as following:
Funky Florists in Miami Florida - wedding bouquets a specialty.
