Computer Shut Down or Hibernate? Which one do you prefer?
As most users of windows operating systems know there is a great feature in Windows XP called Hibernate, where you can save the state of your system and close your system later, and then return to your computer and return from hibernate mode which opens it in the same state.
Which one do you prefer?
A proper shutdown and fresh start or do you prefer Hibernate and continue? Did you feel any Performance decrease when using the system after starting from Hibernate?

I prefer to shut it down.
1. Coz it saves electricity. " Won't have to pay big bills"
2. Wont let your computer heat up.
3. My processor is an AMD product so, I like to start it fresh so that it will run smoothly.

Oh I do too, I have a dual Xeon and rather shut it down to start fresh myself..
Not to mention being the one that pays the hydro bills I rather keep it to a minimum....

_suspend_ puts the machine into a low power mode... _hibernate_ acctually dumps the contents of RAM into a pagefile, sets some boottime flags, and shuts down.
I know this because my computer has a (get this) battery life of 0 (zero) hours 0 (zero) minutes and 1(one!) second. seriously, there is no battery in this old beat up sony laptop with winxp pro and 168mb ram. the thing CAME with 98! but i use the hibernate feature to great avail: none of the data i have been working On has been lost...
try this: take your desktop computer and put it in hibernate. UNPLUG it and move it (and whatever else) to ANOTHER PLACE. fire it up. garunteed that if you just let it do its thing, it'll come right up to a "hey, lemme know who to logon to!" screen. I dont even allow suspend -- i just go straight to hibernate.
garunteed.
its what i use when I walk away from my computer...
i can be dead in the middle of debuggin an app and BAM! theres no gettin me away from that thing but a run to china star. next thing I know, im VNC'in into the machine to set it to hibernate.
