Most scanners come with some sort of OCR. In the unlikely event that you do not have one you may need to download one online. An easy one to use is SimpleOCR its free to download. http://simpleocr.com

Now scan the document, with your scanner. Scan and save the file in .gif, .jpeg, .jpg or whatever format you want.

Open that image and go to "File>Save As" and name it (filename).tiff in the "TIFF" format as indicated.

Go to "Start->Programs->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Document Imaging"

Go to "File->Open" and open your scanned document that has been saved in the *.TIFF format.

Go to "Tools->Send Text to Word." You will get a prompt stating this process will take time, Click OK. Depending on your computer's speed, this will take anywhere from a few moments to a minute or two depending on the size of your document image.

When the process is done Microsoft Word will start itself and your document will be present and able to be edited and managed as you please..

Hope this helps!
